In 1994, Bartley and Foley analyzed the chemical composition of a supercritical fluid extract of Australian-grown ginger. The freshly harvested roots were peeled and chopped into 2 mm cubes before grinding under liquid nitrogen. The pulp was mixed with coarse granulated Celite (diatomaceous earth) and subjected to extraction by supercritical CO2.
