From an East African Compositae, Brachyleana Hutchinsii, comes an oil which is steam distilled from the wood of this tree. The tree is known locally in Kenya and Uganda as Muhugwe tree and the oil is commercially known as Muhuhu Oil.

Like many other woody essential oils, Muhuhu oil improves with age. The sweet, balsamic undertones in Muhuhu oil rounds out its woody, faintly smoky side that can be similar to a combination of Cedarwood and Vetiver. The balsamic aroma and woody note gives Muhuhu oil a somewhat similar aroma to Sandalwood, however, it's not considered a replacement for true Sandalwood oils. For our natural perfumers, Muhuhu oil is an excellent fixative due to its heavy base note aroma while not affecting the overall aromatics it is combined with.
