Odor: fruity, syrupy, sweet apple aroma, with herbaceous and aromatic notes Use: Roman chamomile, an aromatic, herbaceous plant also known as noble chamomile or English chamomile, bears small, delicate, fragrant flowers resembling daisies. The word “chamomile” comes from the Greek chamaimelon meaning “dwarf apple.” This etymology is tied to the fruity aroma of overripe apple released by the Roman variety: Walking through a carpet of chamomile causes the release of a delicious smell of apple. The flower heads are harvested during the summer months, July and August, and are dried before being distilled. The essential oil obtained after eight hours of distillation is a concentration of the fruity, syrupy, sweet apple aroma, with herbaceous and aromatic notes. |
