Pell Wall Perfumes |
Geosmin 1% |
Odor Description: | Fresh, earthy, wet Geosmin is the scent of a freshly ploughed field, the first rain after a dry period, damp and deceptively powerful. Geosmin doesn’t seem particularly strong when you sniff the 1% solution, but even a drop or two will have yourn neighbours wondering whether it’s raining. Traces in a fragrance can give you a unique effect and greatly increase diffusion. Like nothing else and very special indeed. |
|
Pell Wall Perfumes |
Geosmin 10% |
Odor Description: | Fresh, earthy, wet. Very diffusive and powerful First isolated by Bush Boake Allen (now part of IFF) and notoriously difficult to buy in small quantities. Here at 1% in DPG, this is geosmin bought pure from IFF, diluted by Pell Wall and still so strong it must be used with caution. We recommend you dilute to 0.1% or even less for blending. |

Geosmin (IFF)
Odor: The odor of Geosmin is best described as the smell of the air after rain falls on dry soil Use: Geosmin is responsible for the muddy smell in many commercially important freshwater fish. Geosmin combines with 2-methylisoborneol (MIB).
Human’s can smell concentrations as low as 10 parts per trillion of Geosmin in water. The characteristic odor of soil was first investigated by Berthelot in 1891. In 1965 the structure of the responsible compound geosmin was determined by Gerber. It was not until 1981 that the pathways for the biosynthesis of these compounds determined.* |
