These very fragrant parts are harvested in January and February and processed into concrete by extraction with volatile solvents. The absolute is then obtained by ethanol extraction of the concrete. Just as with cognac or davana, it exudes a fruity fragrance and also has sulfurous and animalic notes, giving it a lasting, sparkling character. |

Odor: sulfered family / boxtree, fruity, green Use: Blackcurrant buds are a specialized product of the Burgundy region of France, having developed as an outgrowth of that province's long-standing tradition of cultivating the plant for its fruit.
Each year two cooperatives produce about 30 tons of buds derived from three varieties of blackcurrant. The crop occupies approximately 300 ha. tended by some 100 members of the cooperatives. The harvesting is completely mechanized, which has allowed this industry to withstand competition from Eastern Europe. The harvest lasts from December through February, and the buds are extracted in our workshops in Le Sen and Valreas (France). |

Harvest time is from December through to early February. This absolute is of a thick treacle viscosity and dark green in colour. In dilution at 50% I detect a spiced fruit cocktail with a hint of sugar sweetness, a lot of green character throughout and a rainbow of floral wonderment. I also clearly detect a strained, slightly acidic and somewhat cleansing green tea note from the middle stages onwards.” |
